Cafe Madeleine

A large blonde cookie with cracks and melted chococolate A cross-section of a relatively thin cookie with wafers of chocolate and a gooey middle

Oh, baby. This cookie was probably just out of the oven when I picked it up, with chocolate that was still melty and a middle that was still ooey-gooey. The delightful smell of freshly baked cookie was wafting out of my bag the whole way home. Despite my best efforts, there was some damage involved, but it all seems to be purely cosmetic.

The middle is gooey, but the edge manages to be nice and crisp, giving that great cookie contrast of chewy/crunchy texture. And the crunchy edge just about melts in your mouth. I'™m not sure if the crackle on top is genuine or because of my transportation, but it furthers the texture experience. The chips are thin disks and spread throughout the cookie, ensuring that each bite has just a bit of chocolate.

And the flavor! It immediately hits you with a rich buttery sweet and slightly salty combo that has you immediately going back for another bite '¦ and another '¦ and another '¦
